The Heavens of Humboldt

Timelapse of the Day – August 8, 2012

Shot entirely on the GH2 (a lot of professionals know how great a camera this is for video, but it’s been far too under-rated for it’s photo capabilities) using Lumix lenses.  This timelapse uses a mix of sped up video and timelapse image sequences.  Ben @ mahalovideo.com writes:

This is a tribute to the awesome weather and wondrous night skies of Humboldt County, California. Located on the northern coast of California between the Trinity Alps and the Pacific Ocean, Humboldt is a beautiful place for photography of any sort. It has all types of terrain from rugged, snowy mountain peaks to shifting, coastal sand dunes. It’s also home to the densest, oldest population of Coastal Redwood trees on earth. This video shows only a fraction of the extraordinary beauty here.

These timelapses were taken from December 2011 through July 2012.

I shot this entirely on my Panasonic GH2 with the Lumix 12mm, 20mm, 45mm, and 45-200mm lenses. The first three segments were recorded as HD video and sped-up in post-production. The rest of the segments were recorded as RAW photos taken with the help of an intervalometer. I processed the RAW photos in Photoshop and I did all the video editing with Final Cut Pro 7. All of the camera movements were done in post-production.

Special thanks goes to Peeterson & Trifonic for the stunning soundtrack. It’s available on their www.ccmixter.org site here ccmixter.org/files/peeterson/38371
